If a can Christian dies with a sin they didn’t confess, do they go to hell?
No. The promise of the Gospel is not that a Christian live void sin but that their sin is forgiven eternally through New Covenant promise (Hebrews 8:12). When a person believes in Jesus as their Messiah who died for them, they enter into New Covenant relationship with the Father (John 3:16), they are given the indwelling Holy Spirit as the Seal and Guarantor of New Covenant promise (Ephesians 1:13-14).
Essentially, the Father makes a divine choice to not only forgive the sins of the redeemed in Jesus, the Father actually imputes-gifts the sinless perfection of Jesus over the life of the one who believes in Jesus as Messiah (2 Corinthians 5:21; Genesis 3:21); that is, the Father chooses to only see the sinless perfection of His dear Son, Jesus our Messiah, when the Father sees the one who is redeemed by faith, basically, the Father does not see your imperfections, your shortcomings, your failures, He sees His Son in YOU and you are eternally declared “not guilty” and welcomed into the family of Elohim due to your faith in Jesus; truthfully, you belong to Jesus, forever (John 10:28-30).
The Holy Spirit is Deity and He is Elohim (Genesis 1:1-2) and the Logistical Overseer of all things eschatological. In the New Covenant, the promise of the indwelling Holy Spirit is a Guarantee and Seal of your New Covenant relationship with the Father by faith in Jesus as your Messiah.
The Holy Spirit actually indwells those who have trusted in Jesus as Messiah (John 14:16-17). It is the Holy Spirit who walks the redeemed in Jesus in daily Christian sanctification as the Spirit’s anointing produces “divine fruit” (Galatians 5:16-23) through the redeemed Christian as He prepares them for service in the New Jerusalem, eternally.
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
The “Spiritual Law” is eternal, this is the law that condemned Satan of covetousness and prefaced his extrication from the Kingdom. This same Spiritual Law judged the Adamic and Noahic generations of compromise with the demonic where the Earth was judged by water.
The “Spiritual Law” is the law Elohim infused within the heart of human kind on Day-6 as human kind is created in the spiritual image of Elohim thereby possessing certain divine communicable attributes of Elohim concerning a sustainable society and judgment with due process.
Torah Law – the Code of Hammurabi are but mere fragments of the divine Spiritual Law having been codified for specific reasons.
It is the same Spiritual Law that is employed by the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant to arbitrate the redeemed conscience of the Christian and point them toward righteous behavior via the production of divine fruit (Galatians 5:16-23; John 15:8).
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (ESV)
Christian forgiveness in the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:12) is manifest not through obedience or one striving to be obedient subsequent salvation but a Christian’s forgiveness is the result of the imputed-gifted perfection of Jesus over the life of the one who believes that Jesus is Messiah (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The Father makes an affirmative choice via New Covenant promise (Hebrews 8:12) to NOT see the sin of those redeemed by faith in the Son but the Father only sees the righteousness of His dear Son over the life of the faithful in the New Covenant and thereby declares that person “not guilty,” eternally (2 Corinthians 5:21; John 10:28-30).
With that said, the Christian becomes a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17) and their attitude, their perception, of sin and the World changes due to the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14) who begins a good work within the Christian as the Spirit arbitrates the redeemed conscience and during daily Christian sanctification, the Spirit points the redeemed toward righteousness; He does this through His anointing whereby the Spirit produces divine fruit (Galatians 5:16-23) through the redeemed and this fruit fulfills all law; both, codified and spiritual (Galatians 5:23) while this fruit actually pleases the Father and proves one to be a disciple of Jesus (John 15:8).
The Holy Spirit has provided the Christian 1 John 1:9 not for the restoration of New Covenant relationship due to a Christian’s sin but 1 John 1:9 restores intimacy with our Creator which is the most prized element of salvation.
The Christian is in a battle, an inner struggle between the Adamic sin-nature (Romans 5:12) and the New Nature in Messiah (Romans 7:14-25; 2 Corinthians 5:17) and though the Christian hates sin, deplores its presence, they do, from time-to-time, fall short of perfect obedience; therefore, that disobedience does NOT destroy New Covenant relationship but fractures the coveted intimacy with our Lord; intimacy is disrupted due disobedience; therefore, the Christian confesses their short coming as per 1 John 1:9 which results in a clear conscience and restored intimacy….much like apologizing to a best friend for having wronged them…the relationship remains intact but there is a sense of division and loss of intimacy…an apology forthcoming heals this fracture and restores fellowship.
Israel’s children were foreordained to be ministers of the New Covenant’s Gospel; hence, Messiah’s ministry to them (Matthew 15:24); unfortunately, Israel’s children rejected their Messiah; Israel’s children rejected the New Covenant’s precepts of grace through faith in Yeshua while insisting that self-righteousness through Torah Law was the path to righteousness (Romans 10:1-4); Israel’s children conspired with Rome to murder their Messiah upon a cross and demanded that Messiah’s blood be upon them and their children (Matthew 27:25); therefore, Israel’s children were placed under judgment, blinded, while the Gospel, the New Covenant, the Great Commission, the Church, were given to the Gentile “until the fulness of the Gentiles have entered the Kingdom” (Matthew 23:37-39; Romans 11:25).
When you are saved by faith in Jesus as your Messiah, the Holy Spirit takes up residence within you (Ephesians 1:13-14) and there is a small, still, voice that resonates as you mature in your faith that verifies in your inner man that you are a child of the Living God. YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW…WORDS CAN’T ADEQUATELY EXPRESS THIS ASSURANCE BUT THERE IS JOY AND PEACE IN JESUS.
Your outlook on life changes, you understand the futility of this World while the JOY and peace of Jesus encapsulates your inner being. You desire to honor the Father and do His will for your life as selfishness and temporary irrelevant pursuits, the desire for same, disappear. You are content with and thankful for what the Lord has provided you. You are a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17) with wisdom, discernment, that was not present before you trusted in Jesus as your Messiah. You intuitively KNOW that your Creator, Jesus our Messiah, and the Holy Spirit within you, “have your back.” You’re good, unshaken, irrespective of what life might throw at you. You have a “friend that sticks closer than a brother” in the Holy Spirit.
Finally, you have a passion, a love for the Scriptures and the knowledge and wisdom they impart.
No one is justified by commandment keeping, if that were possible, Jesus died in vain (Galatians 2:21).
Where you fail in your theological understanding is a lack of knowledge or awareness concerning the transitional reality of the New Testament from Law to Grace. Torah plays a very diminutive role in the New Covenant; Torah simply points its adherents to their need for a divine Intercessor as Torah only condemns void grace.
If you trust in Torah, Law, your adherence to same in order to establish New Covenant relationship with the Father, you will perish in Hell in self-righteousness as NO ONE is justified by Law Keeping (Galatians 2:16). Faith in Jesus as your Messiah is the only Path to righteousness that the Father honors concerning eternal relationship with Him (Acts 4:12).
Concerning those redeemed by faith in Jesus as their Messiah,
Reading Scripture with intent is like programming a computer’s hard drive…what you’re inputting into your mind and heart can be accessed by the indwelling Holy Spirit for use at the proper time, maybe many years down the road…but the information is stored and He is faithful to draw upon it when you need it. Reading the Scriptures, even if you don’t understand same at that time…is invaluable. Neglecting the Scriptures is like an operating system void information, it’s useless.
Sin is defined by the spiritual law (Romans 2:14-15) that has been extant within human kind subsequent Day-6 and the spiritual law is the very same law that judged Satan of covetousness and under girded his extrication from the Kingdom. The spiritual law judged both the Adamic and Noahic generations of defilement and judgement in water LONG before Sinai and Moses.
Torah’s laws, Moses’ laws, are but a mere fraction of the comprehensive spiritual law that will be used to judge the unredeemed and that same law will be extant in the New Jerusalem as free will remains extant there as well; this, by necessity.
Torah will find relevance in the Millennial Kingdom as Jesus will receive the Kingdom denied Him at His First-Advent and a partial return to Law will manifest there as the Age of Grace will have concluded subsequent the “fullness of the Gentiles” having entered the Kingdom (Romans 11:25).
During this current “Age of Grace”…the New Covenant, as established in the blood of Messiah (Matthew 26:27-29), Torah is not in effect (Romans 6:14) but the redeemed in Jesus are under grace and their obedience is through the indwelling Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14; Romans 7:6) whereby the Spirit produces divine fruit (Galatians 5:16-23) through the redeemed and this fruit fulfills all law; both codified and spiritual (Galatians 5:23) and this fruit actually pleases the Father and proves one to be a disciple of Jesus (John 15:8).
Topic of discussion: It is a distortion of the gospel to emphasize God’s grace heavily while ignoring the need for repentance.
True, actuated, “repentance” is not possible without grace and a relationship with the Father through faith in Jesus as Messiah, why? For one to truly repent and produce divine fruit (Galatians 5:16-23) that validates true repentance, one must possess the indwelling Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14) and allow His anointing to work in their life through obedience via daily Christian sanctification; therefore, one can and should profess a “desire” to repent in conjunction with their statement of faith in Jesus as Messiah, but true, actuated, faith validating, repentance will ONLY manifest subsequent salvation; this, through the production of divine fruit (Galatians 5:16-23) and this fruit fulfills all law (Galatians 5:23); this fruit actually pleases the Father and proves one to be a disciple of Jesus (John 15:8).
