Why is the Mount of Olives prophesied to split in two at Messiah’s 2nd-Advent?

Question posted on FB: “Why is the mountain [Mount of Olives] going to split in two when the lord will land on it, is it to keep invaders out or is it just because of holiness?” Zechariah 14:4

Christian response,

The Eastern Gate to the Old City, Jerusalem, immediately adjacent to the Mount of Olives and the Kidron Valley, was bricked-walled off by Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (1541)…a Muslim cemetery placed in front of the Gate…most likely to prevent the prophecy concerning a Jewish Messiah entering and establishing His Millennial Reign…the seismic activity will most likely open the Eastern Gate for Messiah’s entry as He descends the Kidron Valley, ascends the mount before the gate and enters His Temple as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Also, Zechariah warns of a coming nuclear war in Jerusalem, Israel, most likely involving Russia-China-Islam/Iran v. Israel. Could this seismic activity also be related to that nuclear event?

“And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.” Zechariah 14:12 (NKJV)
