For years, the unpaved, unmaintained, sandy roads of Pine Island’s “Sun Diet Community” have been neglected culminating in rezoning as a “flood prone area,” increased insurance costs, a public service-safety hazard, flooding during storms due inadequate drainage and unmaintained ditches; this, as residents of Sun Diet are forced to deal with roads that are sunken, pot-holed, flooded, becoming increasingly inaccessible to emergency vehicles…these roads are not policed…LOUD off-road and on-road vehicles race through the Sun Diet Community destroying what is left of the roads and Lee County’s Sheriff’s Department is impotent, uncaring, irrelevant…the NOISE-RACE THUGS rule in Florida and Lee County is a stark example of neglect and law enforcement impotence; this, while Florida’s State Muffler Law requires a quiet, OEM-factory-installed muffler on every street-use auto, truck and motorcycle.
Sun Diet’s roads have sporadic markings of “Private Road, No Thru Traffic” but this is a joke…the NOISE-RACE thugs, not Sun-Diet Community residents, use these roads for their own narcissistic, bully, enjoyment. Google Maps routes visitors into the Sun Diet Community via “Sun Diet Boulevard” which is nothing more than a pot-holed sandy path. There is no community organization, no leadership, no community authority….the “Private Road” mantra is a silly joke and Lee County obfuscates its responsibilities by citing the “Private Road” nonsense!
Lee County obfuscates their responsibilities by insisting the roads are zoned private and NOT their jurisdiction yet there is no controlling entity, no maintenance unless a Sun Diet Community resident personally funds road repairs yet the Sun Diet Community residents pay the same State, County, Local, taxes as everyone else; this, as the motoring public uses and abuses these sandy roads without concern.
Lee County, Florida has a reputation of impotence and corruption, I believe the Sun Diet Community and Lee County’s neglectfulness, the uncaring Lee County Commissioner’s Office, under gird this shameful reputation.
