Why is Messiah’s virgin birth a necessity?

Atheist confused concerning the necessity of the virgin birth of Messiah-Jesus. An explanation…

The first prophecy concerning Messiah’s birth via the seed of the woman is Genesis 3:14-15. Messiah’s virgin birth was a necessity due to Adam’s culpability for the Curse resulting in a corrupted genome, a sin-nature, death of the body and spiritual death…a chasm created between mankind and God due to rebellion and disobedience.

So the Lord God said to the serpent:

“Because you have done this,

You are cursed more than all cattle,

And more than every beast of the field;

On your belly you shall go,

And you shall eat dust

All the days of your life.

15 And I will put enmity

Between you and the woman,

And between your seed and her Seed;

He shall bruise your head,

And you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:14-15 (NKJV)

If you remember, when Eve succumbed to the enticement of Lucifer in Eden, nothing happened. Elohim took no affirmative action concerning judgment or wrath. Not until Adam compromised with Eve and rejected God Covenant of Provision that hinged upon not compromising with evil did Elohim search-out Adam and subsequently pronounce The Curse for disobedience (Genesis 3:17-19).

It is Adam that bears the greater culpability for The Fall seeing that Adam received the edict from Elohim to NOT compromise with evil DIRECTLY from the mouth of God. Eve, on the other hand, received the edict by hearsay from her husband; therefore, death, the curse, the chasm, is passed from the seed of the man.

Jesus entered Time through the womb of the woman (Galatians 4:4) in order to circumvent the sin-nature, the corruption, that passes from our first father, Adam (Romans 5:12; 1 Corinthians 15:22). Jesus was born in the flesh fully man and fully God (Philippians 2:8) and this Plan, the Gospel, finds its origin “before the beginning of Time” (2 Timothy 1:10; 1 Peter 1:20).

Jesus was born into the World, born to a “woman,” born under The Law (Galatians 4:4) and Jesus lived a perfect sinless life and fulfilled The Law for us (Matthew 5:17-20) as Jesus was the only One capable of fulfilling the law and meeting the righteous standards of perfection required by God the Father (2 Corinthians 5:21); otherwise, Jesus could not have died as the propitiation/sin-bearer for the sins of mankind (John 3:16).

If Jesus was not born of a virgin, He could not be God because He would be tainted with a sin-nature and Jesus would not have been able to fulfill the righteous requirements of the Law and we would all be dead in our sin and headed to a hopeless death in Hell subsequent to Judgment (Romans 5:8).

Atheist Ponders Afterlife – Purpose of Life

Atheist ponders the reality of life after death – the purpose of life constrained by Time?

A Christian response…

The entire reasoning for life in Time is preparation for Eternity. Mankind is simply a living spirit encapsulated within a body of decaying flesh (2 Corinthians 5:8). Death of the body is the genesis of true life as the spirit of man sheds the constraints of flesh imprisoned by Time and physics (1 John 3:2).

Why is mankind on Earth?

You and I are in a cataclysmic cosmic struggle that was initiated in the Realm of the Spiritual before the beginning of Time. God the Father is dealing with sin-rebellion-an attempted coup d’état initiated in the Kingdom of God and having removed that destructive sin and the culprits initiating same and placed them within the constraints of Time; the removal of sin from the Kingdom of God is the all encompassing causation for the creation of matter – Time – the Universe – Earth – human kind. God the Father, in the interest of maintaining volitional love with His faithful angelic creation, is presently demonstrating why sin and those advocating for rebellion must be dealt with appropriately with justice, equity, for Eternity…God is demonstrating why sin cannot be permitted to exist within the Kingdom (Revelation 21:27).

God is dealing with the destructiveness of sin apart from His Kingdom (Revelation 21:27; Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:14-18; Luke 10:18; Revelation 12). That struggle is observable to human KIND subsequent to the Genesis by watching the ever-present struggle between Allah-Islam-Iran (Satan) v. Yeshua-Jesus-Israel (1 John 3:8b). God’s Plan to defeat the works of Lucifer was initiated in Eden (Genesis 3:14) and concluded with the victory of Messiah-Jesus at the Crucifixion 4000-years later with Jesus conquering death, Hell, the grave and Satan for everyone who believes-trusts in Jesus Christ as Lord for the mediation of sin (Romans 8:37).

Choose whom you will serve…

The death of the body in Time is the beginning of true Life. Mankind makes the “choice” within the constraints of Time relevant to his/her alliances. You are free to battle for God the Father by believing in the Son, Jesus Christ as Lord (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10), receiving the indwelling Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13; 1 John 2:27; John 16:13) and serving God as His warrior for the Gospel (Ephesians 6:12-13) – or – you can reject God’s Plan for your life and serve Satan-Lucifer by default via your rebellion and suffer a similar fate as Satan subsequent to the death of your body in Time (Luke 16; Revelation 20:11-15; Revelation 20:10). You must choose whom you will serve (Joshua 24:14-15). The Age of Grace (God’s offer of a pardon from sin) for every man and woman is finalized at our last exhalation (Hebrews 9:27).

Why Jesus?

Jesus Christ clarifies that the primary purpose for His appearing in Time is to defeat the works of the Devil (1 John 3:8b). Jesus also clarifies that His Kingdom is NOT of this World or this Realm of Time (18:36). You’re either FOR Jesus as His ally or your against Him as His enemy. Without Jesus Christ as your Lord to mediate your sin, you will not see life in God’s Kingdom (John 8:24; John 14:6). Simply put, God the Father is NOT going to allow your destructive, unrepentant, sin to enter His Kingdom subsequent to the death of your body in Time!

Atheism v. Christianity – Sustainability?

Atheism v. Christianity – Sustainability?

When all of the World’s “religions” (including Atheism) are boiled down to their constituent elements and the dross is removed for Truth to shine a Light on man’s purpose in Time and Eternity, two opposing worldviews – ideologies – beliefs, stand-alone in an unsettled World of confusion i.e. Atheism v. Christianity.

If one has taken the time to study the precepts and motives of the World’s religions, Christianity is the only coherent worldview with corresponding truth that defines origin-meaning-morality-destiny and directly answers with logical consistency, empirical adequacy, experiential relevance.

Atheism…

Atheism is a façade claiming a lack of belief in a god or gods; a life lived in nihilism, hopelessness with no future and no purpose. God the Holy Spirit identifies Atheism (unbelief) as a lie and the atheist as a “fool” (Romans 1:18-32). In all honesty, Atheism does not exist except as a psychological construct to defer guilt, personal culpability, for a life lived in narcissism, sexual perversion-deviancy-confusion. Atheism offers its victim’s temporary relief from guilt, culpability, a seared conscience that is otherwise exposed and convicted by the natural moral law written upon the heart of mankind by our Creator at conception (Romans 2:15).

Atheism, for all intents and purposes, is a religious sect-cult of the Religion of Darwinism as evolutionary theory is the most ominous progenitor of atheistic thought subsequent to the genesis of mankind (Colossians 2:8).

Radical modern-day atheism espouses the demonic agenda of “moral relativism” where every man/woman is free from the constraints of objective moral absolutes and pursues unrestricted narcissism-hedonism by doing whatever is perceived as right in their own eyes and that which satisfies their own lust…for more. To Hades with their fellowman and the common-good as long as the atheist’s aberrant lust and vulgar sensual urges are satiated.

Atheism and its primary doctrinal tenant, moral relativism, is destructive to any society that is dependent upon sustainable mores, norms, values, that edify and promote a healthy, happy, moral, polite, productive, equitable, society and ensures same for said society’s posterity.

Christianity…

Christianity, as opposed to and differentiated from Atheism, is a faith-based belief in the Deity and Person of Jesus Christ-Yeshua as God the Son who entered Time 2019-years ago through the womb of a virgin as prophesied in the Genesis (3:14) and the Prophets (Isaiah 7:14) and walked among mankind for 33.5-years defining the plan and purposes of God the Father relevant to Time and Eternity (Philippians 2:8).

It is only Jesus Christ and His perfection in word and deed that made Him an acceptable sacrifice for the sins of mankind (2 Corinthians 5:21) and it is only by grace (unmerited favor) through faith (trusting-believing) in Jesus as Lord that mankind finds forgiveness of sin and righteousness (a right standing) with God the Father leading to a new life in Time and eternal life in Eternity subsequent to the death of the body (Romans 10:9-10; John 3:16; John 14:6). The forgiveness of sin being necessary seeing that unrepentant sin will NOT be permitted to enter the Kingdom of God subsequent to the death of the body in Time (Revelation 21:27).

Christianity believes what the Holy Spirit has said concerning the Holy Scriptures that they are God-breathed, Holy Spirit inspired, words of the Living God, the mind of God to His created human KIND (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21). Christian’s believe that God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, possess absolute dominion, sovereignty, power, over all of Creation, both the Realm of the Spiritual and the Realm of Time (Isaiah 45:5). Christian’s believe that Jesus Christ is Creator, Messiah, Intercessor, Judge (John 1; Colossians 1:15-18; Revelation 20:11-15).

Christian faith is rooted in three objective, empirical, forms of evidence substantiating the reality of our omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, Creator-God, Jesus Christ…

1) The presence of the supernatural Universe that confronts our senses daily and nightly mandating design and a Designer (Genesis 1; Romans 1:18-32).

2) The supernatural presence of the Holy Scriptures that have been preserved by God the Holy Spirit; a written Covenant of Grace from God the Holy Spirit spanning 1400-1600-years; three-Continents; three-languages; forty-writers specifically chosen by God to pen His words on parchment as inspired by the Spirit of God (2 Timothy 3:16). The Christian, having studied the Scriptures, understands that the perfection in prophecy, eschatology, symmetry, substantiates the hand of God in every jot and tittle of the written word (Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 24:35).

3) The Advent of God in Time in flesh in the Person of Jesus Christ-Yeshua as prophesied 4000-years before His appearing on the World stage as the most Iconic – Charismatic individual in the history of mankind (Genesis 3:14; Philippians 2:8; Galatians 4:4).

Christianity, faith in Jesus Christ as Lord for the mediation and remission of sin, results in a new person, a new life, a change in desires – affections – perceptions – loves and the person who is “born again” by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord receives the indwelling Holy Spirit Who takes-up residence within the individual believer and from the moment of “justification,” the new believer is Sealed by the Holy Spirit Who initiates the life-long process of “sanctification” where the believer is daily, incrementally, transformed into in an obedient and forever faithful servant of God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:3-7; Ephesians 1:13; 1 John 2:27).

It is Christianity that transforms the man, woman, child, the citizen, into a faithful and loving individual who seeks to love God with all his heart, mind, soul, strength and to love his neighbor as himself/herself (Matthew 22:36-40). It is Jesus Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit who transforms a life of hopelessness into a life of hope and purpose and love…this is tangible, this is real, this is a citizen that loves the righteous rule of law, God’s righteousness, morality, honesty, peace and desires to do good to his fellowman (Matthew 19:19), his employer (Colossians 3:23-24) and he serves and dedicates himself/herself to God in preparation for servitude to God in Eternity (1 Corinthians 10:31).

In conclusion…

Atheism offers mankind nothing but hopelessness in nihilism and emptiness in diminishing returns, for the soul that lacks the joy of the Lord will never be satiated with the lies and temporal pleasures of this World (1 John 2:15-17). Atheism is a demonic façade resulting in death in sin and hopelessness and death in Hell, for Eternity (John 8:24; Revelation 20:11-15).

Christianity offers the faithful in Jesus Christ a new life of hope, peace, joy, love, meaning, purpose, destiny and assurance; therefore, in every aspect of the comparison/contrast between the two-worldviews and ideological life choices…Christianity is, in every categorical comparison, infinitely superior to the hopelessness and futility of a life lived and wasted in Atheism (Romans 5:1).

America’s Constitutional Republic and Atheism: an Oxymoron of Destruction

America’s Constitutional Republic was crafted by men who reverenced…

1) God-Jesus Christ as Lord.

2) the Biblical Family Unit – one man/one woman becoming one-flesh for life. (only)

3) One Nation founded by God – America.America’s Constitutional Republic was not created for Atheists – Child Mutilators/Abortion Advocates – Sodomites – Socialists – Communists – Islamist’.

America’s Constitutional Republic was carefully crafted via Biblical edicts and designed solely for a religious and moral people ONLY and America’s system of limited government cannot exist or be sustained by any other than a religious and moral people seeking to honor God, His written and Living Word, Jesus Christ our Lord in obedience to Biblical moral absolutes.

A brief discussion…

I am aware that the historically ignorant/deceived, abortion advocating, sexually perverse, atheists-sodomites-socialists in these forums will rebut my Truth with fake MEME’s and fake Founder’s quotes; out of context quotes; spurious Arabic to English quotes from the Treaty of Tripoli; letters and speeches out of context and relevant to English Common Law NOT America’s Constitutional Law.

America was founded by Christian’s who supremely honored Biblical Principles and God’s edicts and Covenants and dispensations spanning the Genesis of Time to John’s Revelation of Jesus Christ as articulated in the Holy Scriptures. Without Jesus as Lord, America would NOT exist! Our Founders fled the tyranny and injustice and slavery of a King and a religious pagan cult i.e. Roman Catholicism to fight for Biblical freedom in a New Land…America. Our Founders fought and died to establish religious liberty and used the eternal supremacy of the Holy Bible as their blueprint to construct a very limited Government infused with checks and balances by the people and for the people.

America’s Founders knew that unless the American patriot possessed intimate knowledge of Biblical precepts and honored the Lord Jesus Christ and Biblical morality, the limited Government outlined in the US Constitution designed to maximize personal freedoms could NOT be realized. In a Nation governed under the auspices of a Constitutional Republic, obedience by the majority to moral absolutes is critically essential for sustainability; otherwise, there will always exist insufficient numbers of Judges-Police-Prosecutors-Penal Institutions to regulate destructive behaviors of those espousing atheism-moral relativism.

Moral absolutes, as articulated within the Holy Scriptures and obedience to same, is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to sustaining a Constitutional Republic based on obedience to the rule of law; this truism is ONLY possible in a diverse, multicultural society, if the heart of the majority of citizens has been redeemed by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. Our Founders were keenly aware of the necessity of Jesus as Lord for the sustainability of America’s Constitutional Republic; for this reason, one will find the presence of a Christian Church on almost every street corner in early American municipalities.

America’s Constitutional Republic was NOT designed to tolerate…

  1. Radical atheism – Moral Relativism.

  2. Child mutilators i.e. those who desire to murder babies in the womb which elicits the wrath of our Holy God.

  3. Sodomites, who defile God’s Covenant of Marriage and the sustainability of the Biblical Family Unit.

  4. America’s Constitutional Republic gives NO quarter for the traitorous Socialist-Leninist-Communist-Marxist-Islamist.

The Atheist-Secularist-Evolutionist/Naturalist-Nihilist-Socialist-Communist-Islamist are an offense to Americanism and anyone espousing these demonically-based, anti-American ideologies and religions should NOT be allowed to serve in any position or hold any office related to America’s Government and the enforcement or application of American Jurisprudence.

The Holy Bible and American Government are inseparable…

America – A Morally-Ethically-Spiritually Sick Nation. Pray for America!

Pray for America – an ethically and morally and spiritually sick Nation…

Transgenderism is a mental illness and if not for the unwise passage of the Mental Health Act of 1963 which inadvertently led to the closure of State-run mental health facilities, homosexuality-lesbianism-transgenderism would not be an issue in society today as these lost and hurting and confused individuals would be remitted for care, treatment, internment if necessary.

When a man or woman is so cognitively confused and distanced from reality that they cannot discern natural human biological physiology and proper sexual protocol as per Nature, this is an untenable psychosis that certainly does not belong in the public square or in positions of influence and authority.

America has so fallen from moral absolutes that a flagrant and boisterous sodomite is presently vying for the position of President of the United States. This fact alone confirms that America is a morally and ethically and spiritually sick society and the United States is certainly under God’s wrath for the shedding of innocent blood in the perversity of abortion and LGBTQ is the tell-tale sign of God’s displeasure.

OEC v. YEC v. Evolution v. Creation – Why?

OEC v. YEC v. the Evolutionist v. the Creation Scientist v. the Atheist v. the Christian…Why?

God created the Universe and all that is in it in six-literal twenty-four-hour days and if the OEC understood why God created the Universe to begin with, they would understand that the Universe was created quickly for cause. Also, mankind cannot date the Earth through science and C-14, radiometric dating or the Universe by starlight, speed of light, because God created a mature Universe and Earth just as He did with Adam and Eve, the first man and woman including the fish of the sea and the land animals and the fowl of the air. The ONLY place in the Scriptures that the Holy Spirit dates the age of the Earth is the genealogy of Messiah-Yeshua through Mary as articulated in the Gospel of Luke.

I do wish you guys would simply trust the Holy Spirit and get over the nonsense that evolutionists and astrophysicists and biologists argue over…they know NOTHING and never will because God the Father, due to Lucifer’s sin and the expulsion of Lucifer for that sin, commissioned God the Son (John 1; Colossians 1:15-20) to take elements from the unseen Spiritual Realm and fashion those elements into matter that is constrained and apprehended by life relegated to the limits of Time and physics then He placed Lucifer upon the Earth and the cosmic struggle that was initiated in Eternity is being dealt-with in Time apart from the Kingdom of God…we are participants in that struggle, daily (Hebrews 11:3; 1 John 3:8b; Genesis 3:14); therefore, mankind, cognitively constrained by Time, physics, the Curse/our sin-nature, will NEVER define origin or cause or purpose (Ecclesiastes 3:11) but the Holy Spirit has revealed these things to those who love God (1 John 2:27) and seek knowledge that ONLY the Holy Spirit can divulge as He too was present at Creation (Genesis 1:2).

Atheistic Logic and cheating Sin and Guilt

Atheistic logic: “If only I wasn’t an atheist, I could get away with anything. You’d just ask for forgiveness and be forgiven. It sounds much better than having to deal with guilt.” Keira Knightly

Christian response…

God the Father knows your heart (Psalm 139:2) and you will not flippantly find forgiveness of sin by mere request in your unbelief; in fact, God does not entertain the prayers of unbelievers (John 9:31) unless that prayer is one seeking obedience to the Son, Jesus Christ, as Lord (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

If you are an atheist, you are truly on your own in the cosmos and you are estranged from the Covenants of God and the promises contingent upon faith in Jesus Christ as Lord (Ephesians 2:1-10); therefore, unless the atheist is willing to humble them self, repent of their sins, acknowledge their need for forgiveness, sincerely believe in their heart and confess Jesus Christ as God who died to pay their sin-debt and believe that He was resurrected for their justification leading to Eternal life (Romans 10:9-10), the unbeliever, the atheist, the religionist, the cultist, will surely die in their sin (John 8:24) and they will die a second death in Hell (Revelation 20:11-15). Why?

Because God the Father is NOT going to permit unrepentant sin to enter His Kingdom upon death of your body in Time (Revelation 21:27). It is sin having manifest in the Kingdom of God before the creation of Time and the expulsion of the culpable parties that is the causation for all of creation that is temporarily constrained by Time/physics; therefore, God the Father is certainly not going to allow your destructive sin to defile His Kingdom (1 John 3:8b; Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:14-18; Luke 10:18; Revelation 12).

Atheistic flippancy and carelessness, mockery, toward the justice and holiness of God will only incite greater wrath at Judgment (Ezekiel 24:14). The facade of Atheism clearly identifies the “fool” of Time and Eternity (Psalm 14:1; Proverbs 1:7; Proverbs 9:10; Romans 1:18-32).

Jesus - prayers of the wicked

Is God simply a “concept?”

A desperately confused, hurting, deceived, Atheist defines our Creator-God as a “concept.” Atheist Mark stated: “Can something exist in the physical world without empirical evidence? Yes, and God is an example. When I say God I mean a concept, a thought, or idea–not a supernatural being.”

A response to the Atheist…

God demonstrates His reality through…

1) What He has created supernaturally and placed before our eyes.

2) The incarnation of God in Time via the life of Jesus Christ-Yeshua Who walked among us for 33.5-yrs.

3) The incredible collection of works via the Holy Spirit i.e. the Holy Scriptures spanning 1400-1600-yrs, 3-languages, 3-Continents, 40-writers inspired by God the Holy Spirit to pen on parchment the mind of God explaining origin-meaning of life-morality-our destiny in Time and Eternity.

God demonstrates His reality through His creation and through the life of Jesus Christ and through His written word. You need not “imagine” a “concept” of God but simply acknowledge a reality; that is, our Universe, our complex genome, demands design and a Designer and said Designer has given you the most profound, best-selling, most popular writings to have ever existed i.e. the Holy Scriptures.

The Scriptures are our Creator’s love letter to YOU defining, articulating His Covenant of Grace where He has given His all to provide you, a sinner (Romans 3:23), a pardon from your sin and commute your sentence of death in Hell to life in Eternity – IF – you will simply humble yourself, acknowledge your sin and sincerely repent and believe in your heart, confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is God who died to pay your sin debt and that He was resurrected for your justification leading to Eternal Life (Romans 10:9-10).

No imagination or idealistic concept of a “god” is necessitated as our Creator has provided you supernatural examples of His power and dominion via what He has made and placed before your eyes; Our Creator, in is unfathomable love, mercy, grace, exited the Realm of Eternity and entered Time in the flesh some 2019-yrs ago (Philippians 2:8) and walked among us for 33.5-yrs and defined God through the Gospel (John 14:9) and this Gospel message has been meticulously recorded for you in the Holy Scriptures.

When you stand before Jesus Christ in either the Bema-Seat Judgment of the faithful (2 Corinthians 5:10; Romans 14:10) or the Judgment of the Condemned (Revelation 20:11-15), no one will be afforded an excuse that they did not know or could not know because God has clearly introduced Himself to mankind via Nature, via Jesus Christ, via the Scriptures (2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 1:18-32). God has meticulously written His moral law upon our heart at conception (Romans 2:15) and He has placed irrefutable knowledge concerning Himself in Nature, in Jesus, in the Scriptures; therefore, the unbeliever is “without excuse” (Romans 1:18-32).

Argument for the Existence of God?

The following “argument for God” was taken from: “Got Questions” Is there an argument for the existence of God? See: https://www.gotquestions.org/QOTW.htm

Question: “Is there an argument for the existence of God?”

Answer: The question of whether there is a conclusive argument for the existence of God has been debated throughout history, with exceedingly intelligent people taking both sides of the dispute. In recent times, arguments against the possibility of God’s existence have taken on a militant spirit that accuses anyone daring to believe in God as being delusional and irrational. Karl Marx asserted that anyone believing in God must have a mental disorder that caused invalid thinking. The psychiatrist Sigmund Freud wrote that a person who believed in a Creator God was delusional and only held those beliefs due to a “wish-fulfillment” factor that produced what Freud considered to be an unjustifiable position. The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche bluntly said that faith equates to not wanting to know what is true. The voices of these three figures from history (along with others) are simply now parroted by a new generation of atheists who claim that a belief in God is intellectually unwarranted.

Is this truly the case? Is belief in God a rationally unacceptable position to hold? Is there a logical and reasonable argument for the existence of God? Outside of referencing the Bible, can a case for the existence of God be made that refutes the positions of both the old and new atheists and gives sufficient warrant for believing in a Creator? The answer is, yes, it can. Moreover, in demonstrating the validity of an argument for the existence of God, the case for atheism is shown to be intellectually weak.

An argument for the existence of God — something rather than nothing

To make an argument for the existence of God, we must start by asking the right questions. We begin with the most basic metaphysical question: “Why do we have something rather than nothing at all?” This is the basic question of existence—why are we here; why is the earth here; why is the universe here rather than nothing? Commenting on this point, one theologian has said, “In one sense man does not ask the question about God, his very existence raises the question about God.”

In considering this question, there are four possible answers to why we have something rather than nothing at all:

1. Reality is an illusion.
2. Reality is/was self-created.
3. Reality is self-existent (eternal).
4. Reality was created by something that is self-existent.

So, which is the most plausible solution? Let’s begin with reality being simply an illusion, which is what a number of Eastern religions believe. This option was ruled out centuries ago by the philosopher Rene Descartes who is famous for the statement, “I think, therefore I am.” Descartes, a mathematician, argued that if he is thinking, then he must “be.” In other words, “I think, therefore I am not an illusion.” Illusions require something experiencing the illusion, and moreover, you cannot doubt the existence of yourself without proving your existence; it is a self-defeating argument. So the possibility of reality being an illusion is eliminated.

Next is the option of reality being self-created. When we study philosophy, we learn of “analytically false” statements, which means they are false by definition. The possibility of reality being self-created is one of those types of statements for the simple reason that something cannot be prior to itself. If you created yourself, then you must have existed prior to you creating yourself, but that simply cannot be. In evolution this is sometimes referred to as “spontaneous generation” —something coming from nothing—a position that few, if any, reasonable people hold to anymore simply because you cannot get something from nothing. Even the atheist David Hume said, “I never asserted so absurd a proposition as that anything might arise without a cause.” Since something cannot come from nothing, the alternative of reality being self-created is ruled out.

Now we are left with only two choices—an eternal reality or reality being created by something that is eternal: an eternal universe or an eternal Creator. The 18th-century theologian Jonathan Edwards summed up this crossroads:

• Something exists.
• Nothing cannot create something.
• Therefore, a necessary and eternal “something” exists.

Notice that we must go back to an eternal “something.” The atheist who derides the believer in God for believing in an eternal Creator must turn around and embrace an eternal universe; it is the only other door he can choose. But the question now is, where does the evidence lead? Does the evidence point to matter before mind or mind before matter?

To date, all key scientific and philosophical evidence points away from an eternal universe and toward an eternal Creator. From a scientific standpoint, honest scientists admit the universe had a beginning, and whatever has a beginning is not eternal. In other words, whatever has a beginning has a cause, and if the universe had a beginning, it had a cause. The fact that the universe had a beginning is underscored by evidence such as the second law of thermodynamics, the radiation echo of the big bang discovered in the early 1900s, the fact that the universe is expanding and can be traced back to a singular beginning, and Einstein’s theory of relativity. All prove the universe is not eternal.

Further, the laws that surround causation speak against the universe being the ultimate cause of all we know for this simple fact: an effect must resemble its cause. This being true, no atheist can explain how an impersonal, purposeless, meaningless, and amoral universe accidentally created beings (us) who are full of personality and obsessed with purpose, meaning, and morals. Such a thing, from a causation standpoint, completely refutes the idea of a natural universe birthing everything that exists. So in the end, the concept of an eternal universe is eliminated.

Philosopher J. S. Mill (not a Christian) summed up where we have now come to: “It is self-evident that only Mind can create mind.” The only rational and reasonable conclusion is that an eternal Creator is the one who is responsible for reality as we know it. Or to put it in a logical set of statements:

• Something exists.
• You do not get something from nothing.
• Therefore a necessary and eternal “something” exists.
• The only two options are an eternal universe and an eternal Creator.
• Science and philosophy have disproven the concept of an eternal universe.
• Therefore, an eternal Creator exists.

Former atheist Lee Strobel, who arrived at this end result many years ago, has commented, “Essentially, I realized that to stay an atheist, I would have to believe that nothing produces everything; non-life produces life; randomness produces fine-tuning; chaos produces information; unconsciousness produces consciousness; and non-reason produces reason. Those leaps of faith were simply too big for me to take, especially in light of the affirmative case for God’s existence … In other words, in my assessment the Christian worldview accounted for the totality of the evidence much better than the atheistic worldview.”

An argument for the existence of God — knowing the Creator

But the next question we must tackle is this: if an eternal Creator exists (and we have shown that He does), what kind of Creator is He? Can we infer things about Him from what He created? In other words, can we understand the cause by its effects? The answer to this is yes, we can, with the following characteristics being surmised:

• He must be supernatural in nature (as He created time and space).
• He must be powerful (exceedingly).
• He must be eternal (self-existent).
• He must be omnipresent (He created space and is not limited by it).
• He must be timeless and changeless (He created time).
• He must be immaterial because He transcends space/physical.
• He must be personal (the impersonal cannot create personality).
• He must be infinite and singular as you cannot have two infinites.
• He must be diverse yet have unity as unity and diversity exist in nature.
• He must be intelligent (supremely). Only cognitive being can produce cognitive being.
• He must be purposeful as He deliberately created everything.
• He must be moral (no moral law can be had without a giver).
• He must be caring (or no moral laws would have been given).

These things being true, we now ask if any religion in the world describes such a Creator. The answer to this is yes: the God of the Bible fits this profile perfectly. He is supernatural (Genesis 1:1), powerful (Jeremiah 32:17), eternal (Psalm 90:2), omnipresent (Psalm 139:7), timeless/changeless (Malachi 3:6), immaterial (John 5:24), personal (Genesis 3:9), necessary (Colossians 1:17), infinite/singular (Jeremiah 23:24, Deuteronomy 6:4), diverse yet with unity (Matthew 28:19), intelligent (Psalm 147:4-5), purposeful (Jeremiah 29:11), moral (Daniel 9:14), and caring (1 Peter 5:6-7).

An argument for the existence of God — the flaws of atheism

One last subject to address on the matter of God’s existence is the matter of how justifiable the atheist’s position actually is. Since the atheist asserts the believer’s position is unsound, it is only reasonable to turn the question around and aim it squarely back at him. The first thing to understand is that the claim the atheist makes—“no god,” which is what “atheist” means—is an untenable position to hold from a philosophical standpoint. As legal scholar and philosopher Mortimer Adler says, “An affirmative existential proposition can be proved, but a negative existential proposition—one that denies the existence of something—cannot be proved.” For example, someone may claim that a red eagle exists and someone else may assert that red eagles do not exist. The former only needs to find a single red eagle to prove his assertion. But the latter must comb the entire universe and literally be in every place at once to ensure he has not missed a red eagle somewhere and at some time, which is impossible to do. This is why intellectually honest atheists will admit they cannot prove God does not exist.

Next, it is important to understand the issue that surrounds the seriousness of truth claims that are made and the amount of evidence required to warrant certain conclusions. For example, if someone puts two containers of lemonade in front of you and says that one may be more tart than the other, since the consequences of getting the more tart drink would not be serious, you would not require a large amount of evidence in order to make your choice. However, if to one cup the host added sweetener but to the other he introduced rat poison, then you would want to have quite a bit of evidence before you made your choice.

This is where a person sits when deciding between atheism and belief in God. Since belief in atheism could possibly result in irreparable and eternal consequences, it would seem that the atheist should be mandated to produce weighty and overriding evidence to support his position, but he cannot. Atheism simply cannot meet the test for evidence for the seriousness of the charge it makes. Instead, the atheist and those whom he convinces of his position slide into eternity with their fingers crossed and hope they do not find the unpleasant truth that eternity does indeed exist. As Mortimer Adler says, “More consequences for life and action follow from the affirmation or denial of God than from any other basic question.”

An argument for the existence of God — the conclusion

So does belief in God have intellectual warrant? Is there a rational, logical, and reasonable argument for the existence of God? Absolutely. While atheists such as Freud claim that those believing in God have a wish-fulfillment desire, perhaps it is Freud and his followers who actually suffer from wish-fulfillment: the hope and wish that there is no God, no accountability, and therefore no judgment. But refuting Freud is the God of the Bible who affirms His existence and the fact that a judgment is indeed coming for those who know within themselves the truth that He exists but suppress that truth (Romans 1:20). But for those who respond to the evidence that a Creator does indeed exist, He offers the way of salvation that has been accomplished through His Son, Jesus Christ: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13).
