Attended an in-service class during my 31-years in law enforcement concerning pit-bulls and unpredictability and fighting dogs. A man (unnamed for this narrative) allowed his pit-bull dog to sleep in the home one night and his 7-year-old-daughter climbed out of bed to retrieve a drink of water from the kitchen. When the father woke the next morning he discovered his daughter deceased on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood with the pit sitting and bright eyed as if nothing had happened. It is NOT wise to trust a pit with your children…I know there are basically two-breeds of pit, killers and lovers…but what lies deep in the heart of any pit is NOT known till it’s stressed.
Pit bulls were bred and trained to fight on the battle ground during horse and sword-joust warfare because their bite strength was sufficient to penetrate a coat of mail worn by soldiers who were knocked off their horse. The bite was sufficient to crush bone and possibly tear open arteries and veins. Anyone who trusts a pit around their children is NOT wise.
