Jesus preached obedience to Commandments; Paul preached obedience to the Holy Spirit. Why the confusion; why the disconnect?

Jesus said,

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17-19 (ESV)

Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said,

“16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” Galatians 2:16 (ESV)

“20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.” Romans 3:20-22 (ESV)

Discussion – Explanation,

First of all, Jesus, who is Elohim (Genesis 1:1) in flesh via the hypostatic union, kept the righteous mandates of Torah Law for us as He is the only One qualified to keep the Law as Jesus was absent the Adamic sin-nature (Romans 5:12) through the virgin birth (Philippians 2:5-11). Jesus’ fulfillment of Torah Law was essential for our redemption from sin as His sinless perfection was mandated in order that He be our “Spotless Lamb” who takes away the sins of the World via blood atonement (1 Peter 1:18-19; John 1:29-32; 1 John 2:1-2); this, as per the mandates of Leviticus 17:11.

Second,

Jesus came to a people group, Jacob’s children specifically, who were under the Law (Matthew 15:24) as Jesus was under the Law (Galatians 4:4) and Sinai was their ICON concerning relationship with the Father via a conditional Covenant (Deuteronomy 28) but things were changing in accordance with the Father’s eschatological plan and Jesus preached Grace-Faith-Intimacy and Jesus promised the Spirit (John 14:16) as per New Covenant promise (Jeremiah 31; Ezekiel 36) to implement these divine elements of eternal life which would be actuated through blood atonement (Hebrews 10) and Jesus ordained His minister of the Gospel, Saul of Tarsus AKA Paul the Apostle (Galatians 1:11; Acts 9:15-16), to articulate the particulars of this New Covenant’s Gospel established in Messiah’s blood (Matthew 26:28); therefore, those born again by faith in Jesus as Messiah, possessing the indwelling Holy Spirit by Covenant promise (Ephesians 1:13-14: Ezekiel 36:27), are NOT under the Law – Sinai – Moses – Torah (Romans 6:14); that is, their New Covenant relationship with the Father is not predicated upon law-keeping but upon faith (Galatians 2:16; Romans 3:21).

Those in the New Covenant by faith in Messiah have been granted “grace” through “faith” and the indwelling Holy Spirit is their Arbiter of a Law written upon the human heart as per New Covenant promise (Jeremiah 31; Ezekiel 36; Hebrews 8:10) and this Spiritual Law (Romans 8:2; Romans 2:14-15) is comprehensive and vastly, eternally, superior to Sinai – Moses – Torah as the Spiritual Law addresses every moral decision encountered by the redeemed in Jesus, daily, and the Spiritual Law is NOT subject to obfuscation, rationalization, interpretation, by the Adamic sin-nature but the Spiritual Law is methodically applied in the life of the redeemed in Jesus through a redeemed conscience (2 Corinthians 5:17 “the new creation”) via the Holy Spirit’s anointing (Galatians 5:16; 1 John 2:27) and this divine anointing is realized through the production of divine “fruit” (Galatians 5:22-23) against which there is NO LAW as the “fruit of the Spirit” fulfills all righteous mandates of all moral Law (Galatians 5:22-23); therefore, there is a stark, eternal, differentiation between the application of law in the Covenant of Law AKA “the Law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2) compared to the application of the “Law of the Spirit of Life” (Romans 8:2) in the New Covenant of Grace; a New Covenant Spiritual Law that is made relevant, applicable, through faith in Messiah Jesus and the Arbiter of the New Covenant Law, the indwelling Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16; Romans 7:6).

If you worship at Sinai, you will die in Hell in your sin (Galatians 2:16); If you worship at Golgotha, you will live eternally by grace through faith in Jesus as Messiah via New Covenant promise (John 3; 2 Corinthians 3).
