Atheist questions the validity of Messiah’s hypostatic union, a response…

Atheist questions the validity of Messiah’s hypostatic union:“On a church website this was posted: It seems there are only 3 options for considering the composition of Jesus’ DNA:

  1. Jesus has 100% Mary’s DNA with a divinely created Y chromosome to make Him male.
  2. Jesus has 50% DNA from a human female (Mary) and 50% DNA from God, to replace that of a human male.
  3. Jesus has DNA created entirely by God at the time of His conception.

Thoughts?

Christian response,

Every human being and their DNA is 100% created entirely by God which is our complex genome (Genesis 1:26-28). Jesus Christ, as prophesied as early as Genesis 3:15, was born of the seed of the woman (virgin) and fertilized by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35) as first introduced in Genesis 1:2. This combination of man and God is referred to theologically as the “hypostatic union” (Philippians 2:5-8) which was essential if Jesus was to fulfill His primary objective within the Realm of Time; that is, “to destroy the works of the Devil” (1 John 3:8b) and accomplish this mission via the Gospel that was ordained “before the beginning of Time” (2 Timothy 1:9-10) and this Gospel is first pictured for us by Elohim in Genesis 3:21; that is, God Himself clothing man in His own “robe of righteousness” through imputation (2 Corinthians 5:21) through the shedding of innocent blood (Hebrews 4:14-16; Luke 22:20) while rejecting man’s attempts to cover his own sin and shame through the works of his hands i.e. fig leaves (Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16; Romans 3:20).

Messiah’s hypostatic union of God and man permitted Messiah to circumvent the sin-nature that is passed genomically through the seed of the first man, Adam (Romans 5:12-21) and successively through our Earthly father. Jesus, though tempted in all ways just as we (Hebrews 4:15), remained physiologically and spiritually pure during His 33.5-year sojourn upon this Earth (John 8:46) thereby permitting Jesus to fulfill the mandates of the Sinai Decalogue and the 613-Levitical Laws (Matthew 5:17), something no man born of the seed of Adam could accomplish due to the sin-nature; the fulfillment of the Laws of God with absolute perfection qualified Messiah Jesus to be the ONLY acceptable atonement for sin as per the Law which mandates said Laws must be obeyed with perfection if righteousness is to be attained through Law (James 2:10; Galatians 3:10; Deuteronomy 27:26).

Void Messiah’s hypostatic union of God and man and blood, mankind would be lost in sin and hopeless in this condition as God the Father has so decreed that nothing impure will ever enter His Kingdom (Revelation 21:27); therefore, the Father has decreed by Covenant and Grace (John 3:16) that anyone who “believes” in the Son, Jesus Christ, believes that Jesus is God who died to pay their sin-debt, believes this sincerely in their heart and confesses this with their mouth, believes that Jesus was raised from the dead for their justification, they will be forgiven of all sin, past-present-future, and Guaranteed eternal life with God through the Gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit who takes-up residence within the faithful in Christ and daily walks them in the process of sanctification-obedience as the faithful are prepared for service in God’s Kingdom i.e. The New Jerusalem (Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 John 2:27; Galatians 5:16; Revelation 21).

  1. What do you think of the philosophical, metaphysical, and logical problems with the doctrine of the hypostatic union? Below is an excerpt from my most recent blog post at the time of my typing this as an example:

    “The divine essence, more specifically God, exists necessarily, which implies that God’s existence is the same as His essence. In contrast to this, the existence of the human essence is only possible, that is, it can possibly exist or possibly not exist, since its existence is acquired. Thus, if Christ were both fully God and fully man simultaneously, then Christ’s existence would be simultaneously both necessary and contingent, but this is impossible. To say that something is necessary is to say that it is impossible for it to not exist, but to say that something is contingent is to say that it is possible for it to not exist. However, something cannot be both impossible and possible at the same time and in the same sense. It is a logical contradiction, then, to say an existent (one that exists) is both necessary and contingent simultaneously.”

    1. Christ is preexistent…His presence within the realm of time in flesh is in accordance with the Father’s will extant before the creation of Time, the human genome. It is the Father’s will that works of the devil be detroyed through God’s selfless love; therefore, God the Son willingly took-on flesh in order to accomplish this eternally relevant assignment (1 John 3:8b). Nothing is impossible with God and God is not subject to the limits of our reality, Time, Space, Matter.

      1. Hello Rickey, thank you for responding. Christ must have come into existence at some point, since humans by definition come into existence. Hence, if Christ were fully human, he would have necessarily come into existence.

        Now, there are things which are impossible with God, which even Christians will admit. God, for example, cannot cease to exist, on account of His being a necessary being, something on which you and I might find common ground. Now, it is interesting that you say that God “is not subject to the limits of our reality, Time, Space, Matter.” Logic is also not bound by time, space, and matter. Logic is can be thought of as how we understand reality. If God is real, then, it is pertinent to usw logic when seeking to understand Him. Of course, there may be things about God which are logically incomprehensible, but that is not the same as logically incoherent or contradictory. If we are not willing to accept logic, then there is basis by which we can say that one worldview is the true one or that belief in God is logical.

      2. Christ is God eternal…from everlasting to everlasting (Hebrews 1) and He has no genesis. The Christ we know as having existed in Time for 33.5-years is the Jewish Messiah who was born via the virgin Mary via the Tribe of Judah and He is both God and man (Philippians 2)…Jesus existed as God before the Creation of Time…He is the Eternal God, Elohim (Genesis 1).

        God the Father speaks concerning the Son, Jesus Christ…
        8 But regarding the Son He says,

        “Your throne, God, is forever and ever,
        And the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of [i]His kingdom.
        9 You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
        Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You
        With the oil of joy above Your companions.”

        10 And,

        “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
        And the heavens are the works of Your hands;
        11 They will perish, but You remain;
        And they all will [j]wear out like a garment,
        12 And like a robe You will roll them up;
        Like a garment they will also be changed.
        But You are the same,
        And Your years will not come to an end.” Hebrews 1 (NASB)

      3. You have no argument, you’re suggestion is moot…Christ is not affected by Time…He is eternal…and has always existed and unless He is your Messiah, your God and Lord and Savior, you have no hope in this life or in the life to come.

      4. It seems as if you do not understand my argument, or you do but are incapable of offering a coherent response. You are simply stating your belief. That does nothing and has no substance in countering my argument. Please, address my argument, if you are able.

      5. I am telling you what the Scriptures tell you…you’re free to believe and LIVE or you can deny and die in Hell. Jesus is God, Creator, Messiah, Judge, and unless He is your Mediator for sin before the Father, you will die in sin and and die in Hell (John 8:24).

      6. You are apparently incapable of understanding. Though Christ took-on flesh in order to defeat the works of the Devil (1 John 3:8b) and become our atonement for sin…Christ was never absent deity but willingly made Himself a servant for your benefit…Christ allowed the body He inhabited to be tempted, suffer pain, doubt, weakness, heartache…loss…but Jesus is and always was God, your Creator and your Messiah…though His body was murdered by the Jews and Roman authorities, Jesus never died in Spirit and the body that Jesus received at the resurrection is not carnal but imperishable as the firstfruits of those who will die trusting in Him as Lord and experience the resurrection from the dead to serve in the New Jerusalem. At NO TIME was Jesus anyone or anything but God…He simply humbled Himself and took the form of a servant for our benefit.

        The Holy Spirit conveys this concerning Jesus as God,
        5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

        6 Who, being in very nature God,
        did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
        7 rather, he made himself nothing
        by taking the very nature of a servant,
        being made in human likeness.
        8 And being found in appearance as a man,
        he humbled himself
        by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross! Philippians 2 (NIV)

      7. I am not misunderstanding what you are saying. You are simply not addessing my argument. I am arguing that it is a logical contradiction for Christ to be both fully God and fully man simultaneously.

      8. But I just demonstrated this to be a logical contradiction. So far, you have not presented any substantive counter argument. You have stated what you believe more than once, but if you hardly given me any substantive reason for your beliefs

      9. You’ve demonstrated nothing but the inadequacy of man’s logic when compared to the omnipotence, and omniscience, of God. Your mind is incapable of “logically” defining God and His attributes in their fullness…you are on the road of the fool who attempts to know God through man’s intelligence limited by Time, physics and the curse.

        I believe because I trust in what the Scriptures tell me and having believed, God provided me with the indwelling Holy Spirit and there is NO WAY that I could ever be an atheist knowing what I know and having walked with my Lord Jesus for the previous 29-years with intimacy. You are the one lacking life and hope…you don’t know what you’re missing because you won’t humble yourself before God, acknowledge your need for forgiveness of sin and trust in Jesus as your Lord and Messiah…you simply refuse to believe; therefore, you’re blind, lost, unable to understand…you’re headed to death in Hell and you’re too proud and stubborn to humble yourself and seek God in Jesus Christ as Messiah who died to pay your sin-debt (Romans 10:9-10).

      10. I think you grearly misunderstand my purpose. Unfortunately, if you are merely going to preach at me rather than have a rational discussion with me, I do not see a reason for us to continue this conversation. I will continue to follow God, wherever He might lead.

      11. If you deny Jesus as Lord and Messiah, you are not following God…you’re following the Devil to Hell.

      12. I trust in the Holy Spirit who lives within me subsequent to believing in Jesus as my Messiah (Ephesians 1:13-14) who died to pay my sin-debt (John 3:16-18. I believe the Scriptures are inspired by the Holy Spirit and the Canon reflects exactly what our Creator, Jesus Christ, desires that we know about the who, what, where, when, why, how, relevant to our purpose in Time and in Eternity and God’s eschatological Plan for this Earth, the Heavens, our resurrected bodies and life in the New Jerusalem as Satan is defeated and order is restored in the Spiritual Realm. If you deny Jesus as your Messiah, you will not enter the Kingdom of God subsequent to the death of your body in Time (John 14:6).

      13. I did not ask for a confession of what you believe. I would very much like to see you at least attempt to refute my argument. Again, I would appreciate it if you could interact with my argument rather than skirting around it.

      14. You have no argument…you’re attempting to place our omnipotent God within a box of Time and physics…that can’t be done…He is Spirit (John 4:24) and not constrained by Time, matter, physics…Jesus is eternal…He has no genesis…your argument is nonsensical and irrelevant. Jesus’ Kingdom is NOT of this Realm of Time (John 18:36).

      15. Again, it would appear as if you have misunderstood my argument. I have in no way argued that God is bound by physical or temporal restraints. God is a necessary being. Humans are contingent beings. Thus, if Christ is both God and man, then he is both necessary and contingent, but this is a logical contradiction. It is a very simple line of reasoning.

      16. God is not contingent upon Time, Physics, Flesh and the resurrected body of Christ is not constrained by Time, Physics, Flesh…you’re argument has no foundation.

      17. You seem to not understand the terms necessary and contingent. A necessary being is a being whose nonexistence is impossible, whereas a contingent being is a being whose nonexistence is possible. God is necessary. Humans are contingent. If Christ is both God and human, he is both necessary and contingent, but this is a logical contradiction.

  2. Again, you’re attempting to place God in a box constrained by Time and Physics…this is not possible. God inhabited the body of man for a period of Time but that body died away and gave way to the resurrected body that is an example of the body the redeemed in Messiah will receive (Philippians 3:21). You’re attempting to apply man’s logic and the limitations to God…this is not possible…this is where the atheist makes a fatal error…they cannot accept the truism that God is beyond full human understanding and if our 3-pound brain could define and understand God, He would not be God.

    No one has seen God at any time; God the only Son, who is in the arms of the Father, He has explained Him. John 1:18
